c:r moddump: lol files part 2Huzzah!

hifi, denizen of #carmageddon and creator of fine digital wares, suggested poking an uncompiled .lua back in place of the compiled version. And, by Jove, it worked!

Once you've grabbed your .lol, edited the 6th byte, decompiled and made your edits you can just import the cleartext .lol back into the ZAD and you're good to go.

The proof is in the pudding.0 comments8:59am - Monday, March 17th, 2014 - Errol
toxic ragers githubAnd while I'm here I might as well mention the Github: https://github.com/ErrolErrolson/

Currently only batchTwat there but I'll be adding C:R tools as and when I develop them.

c:r moddump: lol filesJust a quick one.

The .lol files in Carmageddon:Reincarnation are standard compiled LUA scripts with a single byte changed.

Open up the .lol in a hex editor, change the 6th byte from 5F to 00 and save.

The script will now decompile.

I've been using UNLUAC (available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/unluac/) and plan on knocking together a little editor that does the decompile/recompile seamlessly.

Anyhoo,

tricklefeedI have found a backup and have kicked off the restoration process. It seems to be running incredibly slowly. Almost as if each post were being written and backdated. Weird. Errol out.5 comments11:51am - Thursday, May 24th, 2012 - Errol
technical difficultiesWhat the bleedin' hell has happened here?! WHERE MAH NEWS POSTS GONE?

We've had a pretty busy 6 months here at Toxic Ragers and to look at this page you'd think we've been left idle.

A quick recap while I track down some backups.

* Carmageddon: Reincarnation kickstarter - They want money, give them some of yours!
* The CWABoard has come leaps and bounds under the tender hand of Toshiba-3
* A bunch of other stuff I can't remember.

I know I kept those backups around here somewhere... Errol out.0 comments11:00am - Thursday, May 24th, 2012 - Errol

kickstarted reincarnationAre you sat atop a filthy pile of monies and wondering what to do with it all? Well, look no further than the brand new Carmageddon: Reincarnation kickstarter project! Yes! You can help fund what is likely to be the most awesome thing in the world. EVER!

nobby can explain things better than I ever could so give it a read and give them your money! Errol out.0 comments5:21pm - Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 - Errol
like wolverine but without the sideburnsWho has metal bones?! Me! Well, sort of. In advance of my donning a cape and mask and fighting crime in rural Wales I have had my chest cavity upgraded with the latest in metal bar technology. Just you wait, crime! As soon as I can move without whimpering like a small child I shall put paid to you! Now where's that codeine? Errol out.0 comments11:45am - Monday, November 7th, 2011 - Errol
turning 30Oh, woe unto the house of Errol!

I turned 30 on Wednesday. In proper badass fashion I celebrated with a pizza and watched the penultimate episode of Stargate: Universe with my wife and 17 month old son. No spoilers in the comments please! I'm hoping they crash destiny into the sea off the coast of San Fransisco like they did with Atlantis in SG:A.

Anyway, it has been awhile since a post here but I've been crazy busy with work lately. I have been doing some Carmageddon related stuff though, anyone else noticed that devWAM (CFE) has been smushed with the CWA? Yeah, that's my fault! Check it...

As Harmalarm suggested in the comments on my last post I think I'll do a couple of articles next, they require little in the way of work and it allows me to share some info with one and all. Then I'll try to get back into some of my stagnating projects. Errol out.4 comments12:00pm - Friday, October 7th, 2011 - Errol
jamageddon: jarpockalypse nowI apologise for not updating my site this last week or so but I've been busy... making jam! Yes, it is the time of the year where all the wild fruits are ripe for the picking. But you can only eat so much so you make jam with the rest.

So, instead of a Carmageddon related post, have some jam making info...

* Use apples as a natural source of pectin, handy with low pectin fruits like berries
* A moulin is an excellent tool to puree your stewed fruits. No peels or pips in your jam!
* Use a 1:1 ratio of puree weight to sugar
* Once at a rolling boil wait 10 minutes before testing consistency

That's it for now, should you have any jam related questions just drop me a line!

I've also been partaking of deviant sexual acts but I think that's a post for another day. Errol out!2 comments10:49am - Monday, September 19th, 2011 - Errol
development in progressAs I never learn from my mistakes I've decided it's a good idea to live-develope my articles section.

Shit, as they say, be wack.

update

The articles section is online and I've started work on the first article which is all about grooves. I'll be adding commenting and tag support once the article is finished. Probably overhaul the commenting system in general too. Anything else you want? Drop me a comment!

in the groove!Another short but sweet post while I'm trapped down the codemines for work. Everyone knows about the path type "straight" when it comes to grooves but did you know about "circular"? Check this out:
EIIIRBMP.DAT // Actor
not a lollipop // This isn't a lollipop
constant // Always animate
circular // Path
linear // Movement type
0,0,0 // Centre of circle
1.5 // Speed
0.025 // Radius
Z // Axis
no object // No fancy movements
Drop that into Eagle3.txt and you'd have yourself a weird moving bumper!

Anyway, you can always swap "linear" for "absolute" and substitute 1.5 (or your speed) with a GroovyFunkRef to hook it into the car movement. You can also use X and Y as the axis.

Unlike the spin movement this physically moves the actor in a circle, rather than rotating it around a point.

Many thanks for both Toshiba-3 and Harmalarm for doing all the hard work so I could swoop in at the last moment and steal the credit! Errol out.

Also, if lollipops are your thing, check out Toshiba-3's excellent article on the subject: I am a lollipop!6 comments9:23pm - Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 - Errol
a quick updateI've been fiddling with pretty much every aspect of Carmageddon 2 recently and have made a number of interesting finds. I'll cover some of these things in more detail in later posts but for now... BULLETPOINT LIST!

* You can use "lastlap" and "otherlaps" instead of "constant" and "distance" in funks, these work on cars too!
* !materialname makes a flat surface become water, !!materialname makes the game instantly auto-recover you.
* Set the SPARKY noncar keyword on heavy noncars to make them spark when they move. Nice on 36rollinrock1.txt and 06rollinrock2.txt
* Game freezing when opponents fall off your map? Lower your YON!

That should tide you over for now. Errol out!0 comments1:48am - Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 - Errol
peds, zombies and aliens. oh my!Sometimes you just want to take a break from running over pedestrians and run over some zombies instead. Or possibly some aliens. Thanks to Coffeycup from over at Mac Carpocalypse this has been possible for quite a while with his handy alien and zombie packs.

But, if you're lazy like me, you might want to swap between peds, zombies and aliens with no file moving shennanigans. If so then you should click here (9.15MB) (for Aliens) and here (14.4MB) (for Zombies). These packs will allow you to have peds, zombies and aliens all installed at the same time, with appropriately labelled powerups and interface, without messing around with files. Simply create two shortcuts as per the instructions in the zips and you're good to go.

Enjoy! Errol out.0 comments10:24pm - Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 - Errol
